It makes me mad to know that most midddle schools don't have a [color=red]REAL [/color] sports team. In Severna Park, the closest you can get are the [color=green]Green Hornets[/color]. Besides, I have to join something out of school to play on a team besides my usual intramurals. :( I wish this gets fixed in every school so kids can be more happy :D .

One of the reasons why middle schoolers don't have sports like high schoolers do is because most of the high sschoolers can drive to their practices and games but middle schoolers can't so thats why so in a way you just have to wait and be patient till you get to high school. :D

Unfortunately, though this is an awesome idea, i dont think that it is practical. So many politics would become involved, and it would end up being something where high school coaches would be just taking kids from the middle school teams like a JJV. This would really take away opportunities from kids who didnt play in middle school.

There is already an established system for almost every sport played in Anne Arundel County.

The County Rec&Parks Dept. is responsible for these types of teams, and adding MS sports teams would take away from every community league as well as from teams that play AACo teams. In short, middle school was never meant to have competitive sports teams -- changing this would affect so many other organizations and citizens, including those who have no connection to the county school system.

Let's think this scenario through:
The county schools start MS sports teams. This action has the following effects:
1. Because of this, many community leagues drop out and shut down.
2. Some kids can't play because there aren't enough people at their school.
3. Parent coaches can no longer volunteer their time doing what they love to do.
4. The county schools are forced to pay more to gym teachers and hire more coaches.
5. Homeschoolers and kids from private schools have nowhere to go to play a sport.
6. Anne Arundel County Rec&Parks loses most community sports teams, and can no longer field teams against out-of-county competitiors.
7. The county schools have to support teams, along with the costs of uniforms, buses, and all costs associated with running a sports league.
8. Children in schools without a good sports program are disadvantaged.

Clearly, starting Middle School competitive sports teams would have many adverse effects, all of which affect people inside [b]and[/b] outside of the school system.

ok its not fair that middle schools dont have sports and i am a girl and i play softbal and soccer and i mean people think that i cant play and all that and if we have school sports than i can show people that i am good at sports. Also people are worried about Obesity and if you have school sports and people wouldnt have to be worrued about it anymore!! :D

Middle Schools should have some of the same rights and activities as the high schools that they will be feeding into so they get an idea of what it might be like. Having sports teams at the middle schools would be great! :D I love playing sports and i love staying fit... having sports teams at the middle schools would help me stay fit and it would be so much fun! Intramurals are awesome but they're just not the same. Also high schoolers are so focused and stressed out about their school work that sports is kind of secondary. If they can handle sports middles schoolers can too!

ok if every middle school starts sports teams then we could do the same thing that the high schools do middle schools could compete wif each other if anyone else thinks that we should do this let me know please!

Well a majority of people who are in middle school favor middle school sports. Hey I do and most middle schools have the needed space to start these sports but, unfortunately most schools don't have the money, time, or resources to start these programs. So it could be a possibility in the future but, we should focus more on education instead of FUN

Well if the county is in favor of the sports teams then each school can be in charge of having a funraiser of some sort! and whatever school wants to participate is responsible for the fundraising! also some of the events can bring the schools together! :idea: :D 8)

we are one of the biggest schools systems it would cost so much more and it takes away from the core education.
i talked with a person from the school board and she said it just cost way to much money nomatter what!!!!!!!

well if the schools payed for it indivisually, then the cost would be cheaper!

and 2 middle schools
they can have sports there and some at elem. schools because they have a bigger budget and smaller education needs

actually no it isn't! Last year I was a VP in my school and we raised over 1000 dollars by holding a dance and 400 dollars through a "which grade is the best contest"!

thats great but that needs money for feilds, coaches, uniforms, etc etc.

If sport teams are funded by the communitiy and students through fundrasers and dues, that would tale away formt he schools budget. But then is it really a school team. A long ways back the middles schools (really Jr. High) did have sports teams. At MacArthur they had sports teams called the Generals the had a basketball and even a swim team. But now the swimming pool is sealed off. My question is why did middle schools STOP having a sports team.

I thin kthey actually stopped for lack of funds! But it is better to have sports teams I think that would bring up the communication in the community then these "Good Behavior coupon Prizes" We just had a christmas shop where we could buy things with our "Good Behavior coupons"(Cardinal Cash) that was like $1000 worth of stuff(I might be exagerating a bit with the money amount but that was the quality)

If someone were to donate money or fund some teams what would the county do? there would be the question of who is responsilble, liabliaty, and is it a true middle school sports team or is it more like SAC, GORC etc.

the idea is good yet it's best with a smaller school systems whose money does not to all be spent on curicullums and high school sports because they usually only have one high school in their system

Usally in that small of a community the local club will have all the participants. There would be no-one on the school team then. (This is very commo in pipleine states)

If only there was a way to show that sports are a big part of our society too and not just the high schools too. you see i play in a couny league in a under 18 league and i get under estimated but i make tons of friends that is how we should start it by making new friends :)

Can't you do that in intermural sports and the is even a closer community.

So, are programs such as LAX just going to die because no one is going to do the teams anymore? Honestly, you middle schoolers have Green Hornets and LAX and BAVA and such, why can't you just be happy with those programs and then look forward to the time when you are in high school?

intrumural sport aren't as good! it can only run so long beacuse they are the same people playing the whole time! but if each middle school had a team it could work exactly like high schools!

But that is what organizations such as GORC, SAC, JPYP, and the boys and girls club are for.

Just look forward to the time when you will be in high school! It will be time for you to be in high school soon enough!

but the point is...ITS NOT FAIR! people always say that we shouldn't let people look down on us, but yet they still do! When you are in high school you can do varsity and community sports! But community sports are the only thing we have! Why shouldn't the board fund us if they fund you? :?: It gets me mad. We can't paricipate with other schools! :x

There is no reason to shout! We are in [i] High School[/i]. Just remember that we have had to wait just like you are waiting right now. Why would we look down on you when we had to go through the same thing? And also, don't you need things in you school like toilet paper in the bathrooms? Don't you think [i]that[/i] should be funded? Why waste money on things that aren't needed?
