School Security test
I'm sure most of you have gotten the letter from Dr. Maxwell about school security.
That letter was written in response to a security "sting" the Capital newspaper did. They got into some county schools and wandered around for up to 20 minutes without getting stopped.
Do you all feel safe in your schools (especially if your school "failed" the test) and do you agree with the Capital's methods?
Here's a link to the article in The Capital.

School Security test
I did feel safe, but now that I see that....not so much. Can you possibly show a link to it? Because I never saw it, and would really like to see what actually happened.
My school's main door is right across from the main office, so I don't think people could get in that way, although the door to the basement that leads to the band room is usually left unlocked...last year there were rumors someone was walking around through the band room, and they might have been true now that I think about it.

I added the link to the story into the first post.
School Security test
I did feel safe because one of the teachers stopped the person and asked y they were there
School Security test
I know Thayne I was so amazed when i heard that it had been a test and that Mrs.Aqunio stoped the person from coming in. I was so happy and yes sometimes i do feel unsafe but that is ok just stay near teachers try to stay away from dangerous conflict etc.
And yes Thayne i know you you are in the SGA and went to the meeting on friday with Mrs.Hartman ( I was on that trip ) no i am not President amanda
School Security test
the whole thing though is that schools are unprepared for something like this
Is it just me or are the drills about intruders in the buildings a bit fake?
We had one the other week and apparently we can't lock the doors (fire marshal
so the teachers opts for a piece of wood
Our guidance consuler (can't spell, sorry) came and opened the door asking if we were about to lock it so our teacher puts the wood in the slot
(it's an open top with about 3 inches of space the put the wood
Well, she puts it in and Mr. Norton (guidance) pulls on the other side-

I never felt some unsecure in school in my life
So, my idea was this:
In a newspaper I read not to long ago, a Texas man (not sure if it was a board member or a government person) but he offered that they teach kids not to 'sit there like good little boys and girls and wait to be shot' but to IMMEDATLY begin to throw anything, even a desk, at the shooter before he could even raise the gun
I'll always remember the part in his ending quote,' that a couple of 7th graders and a 98 lbs art teacher could take down a 200 lbs gunman '
I fully agree with this
Also, I read that article too
It DISGUSTED ME the outcome!
So many didn't stop the reporters (whom they didn't know where so) and just let them wonder
Most of the teachers even smiled and said Hello while the people didn't even have a Vistors Pass on!
and while my school did stop them, My feeder school DIDN'T
The person just walked around for 20 minutes, and although asked to check in, didn't and wasn't stopped for it
Another thing was that my teacher didn't take it seriously
Saying stuff like the office would stop them (which, in my opinion, isn't true because if someone has a gun and is intent on hurting someone, they will not be stopped with a 'will you please leave?')
So, thats about it for my rant
