Project Lead The Way (PLTW), must recieve honors accreditation. For those who are not familiar with the program it is a hands on application course, that covers varius ends of the engineering spectrum. The program is quite intensive. In the first year alone, Principles of Engineering (POE), stundents desighn, build, and computer program a marbel sorter based on light sensitivity. As a current PLTW student, in my seconde year (Introduction to Engineering Desighn, IED), I can say that it is of a higher rigor than other honors courses I have taken in the past. The students of this program who complete the varius courses of PLTW deserve an honors credit! They do more than merely learning information, they apply it to real world concepts. In addition, there is an agreement with the Anne Arundel Community College and Severna Park High School, that AACC will grant students who have succesfully completed the program ,and presented their protfolio, 6 college credits there. If a stundent can recieve college credits at AACC for their work in PLTW, than they should certinialy recieve honors credit at their high school! Thus, it is vital that the PLTW program be granted honors credit by the Board of Education, for the sake of the students and all their hard work.
