I don't think it's necessary to play a song that is [u]completely disgusting[/u] or has too much cussing in it at school, but at my school's dances, we pretty much hear the music we like, maybe with just some parts "editted"..but for the most part people don't mind because it's school, not a dance club. Dances are priviliges, and schools try to give the image that they don't want us to do the stuff mentioned in music..haha

lucky you! at severna park middle school, we only have one dance a year, and only for 8th graders! yah, it's pretty fun, but it's at the end of the year, and only lasts till like 9:30. then, again, we have elks club dances, but there haven't been that many this year, and i doubt there will be many more. our principal HATES dances, so even having the 8th grade farwell dance is a strech for her.

ooh...well that stinks that you only get 1 dance..does your school get any percent of the money from elks club? because i go there too, and i always wondered...what do you guys do to earn money?

I dont kno about ur skools but bates gets 3-4 dances a year. Our skool doesn't have music violations because its like uniforms and hates, our music is our freedom of speech or expresses us. Also no one ever cares about the music at our dances, people jus wanna dance no matter wat the song is or is about. But ur right where does the elks club money go?

ok i am president of the SGA at our school and we have a couple dances a year and they wont let th DJ play certian song that are "inniporoperate"

to raise money we sell stuff like bracelets, and we do this thing with carnations around valentines day. people can send you carnations and a note. we do a few other fundraisers too. This year though we may be able to have more dances because our principal let the PTO have a dance so if she dosen't let us have more than one, she's being hypocritical. No, we don't get any money from the elks dances, that money pays for the very expensive dj(but amazing DJ).

I really dont think that it is fair, that at Severma Park High School, they always threaten to take our dances away. They say it's because of how we dance, but really, every other school in the country dances just the same way. Also, if you go to Elks club (dances for middle schoolers, heald by the fire department), within 5 minutes of the school, they dance even worse. As a freshman coming into high school, they say that they dont like the way we dance..when this is the way we learned to dance in middle school? How is this fair? One of my teachers told me that its because the boys aren't respecting the girls when they dance together. But isnt it really just the girls not respecting them selfs? If they want to dance a certian way, just let them dance. :x

I hate how all the high school dances get all dirty. my parents hear all about the bad stuff that goes on and they get so close to not letting me go! i know everyone's like well it's high school we can dance however we want....i mean i'm not saying it has to be all G rated but i think it should only get to a certain point. i mean if you want to get all into it and stuff get a room! don't go and do it public! the school is thinking about not even having a homecomming next year and that's not fair for alot of people. don't you think it's not fair more the majority of the school?

i DON'T think the admin. should beable censor the music if its all ready censored. I would agree that they beable to censor what is being played because some of the messages are alittle too "grown" for some young, immature, hormone filled youths to be listening to. But if the music doesn't promote sex, drugs, or any other inapropriate substance for school, then i think its OKAY TO PLAY.

Do I think admin should censor edited songs NO. It already censored so what else needs to be done.

If we are allowed to listen to certain music at CRASC/MASC (both school-related field-trips), then why aren't we allowed to listen to it at school?

DrewT hit it right on the nose. If a peice of media complies with FCC regulations for public consumption, then it is appropriate for the school's use. I have a serious distaste for the types of music played in these dances, but it is critical that we maintain our right to function under federal law.

You're right B-Walk its is a races issue, every time a song that is buy a rap artist comes on it is edited Jones, Unk, Lil' Jon you name it all of its edited. Plus the songs aren't good when there edited and I think that kids are mature enough to listen to explicit music, I mean if we can't listen to explicit music then why do they let use watch those videos in health class?

because in health, those are informational, unlike some explict songs

if the songs are so bad with the editing, than the uncut version shouldn't be played in schools anyway

It's school, and the music now a days features things they don't want to influence students with, weither they listen to it anyway or not

I think they should play all types of music. I mean some songs i understand cant be played a say if they play it on the radio play it at the school. At my school kids sing really loud in the hallways.(songs that alot worse)
