You have a valid point but, there are the kids who just want to be rude . Everyday my gym teacher has to scrape off gum on the floor! It is really discusting! If we give the kids an inch they will take a mile! Meaning if we let them have gum, then they don't care where they leave it!

Yeah. I'm 6 ft 5 inches tall and my legs rub up against the bottom of most of our desks unless I stretch them out. Its disgusting.

We should be able to chew gum bcuz if ppl vandalize, thats what the janitors are for! they should clean up! use trident cause its good for your teeth..recomended by dentists!! stop complaining you janitors and clean..thats what you get paid for!! :D

It may be the janitors job to clean, but they are still human. THey are not our slaves. Janitors are there to keep the school liveable and clean up accidents. If we purposely make the school disgusting it will stay disgusting. I don't think the janitors should have to clean up gum, and I honestly think that they dont whether or not they are supposed to. The only way to have gum-free desks is to ban gum altogether during the school day.

GUM CHEWING SHOULD BE ALLOWED!!! First of all, we all know that us students talk waaay to much and maybe with us chewing gum we wouldnt talk as much?!? Also, studies HAVE proven that chewing gum will help you on tests and other schoolwork. :wink: Oh and nobody likes bad breath and ya know with these early times people may forget to brush their teeth :? EW :!: In my school some teachers hand out detentions for gum chewing...Why not allow gum chewing so then a staff member doesnt have to watch us in detention???

well i really don't care bcuz when i was little this girl got gum in her hair bcuz someone put there......and she had to cut her hair to get it out

Maybe not gum but candy. Something not sticky that won't stick to the desks and floors. Some people just throw their gum on the floor when their done with it. It may be a janitors job to clean but not under [u]every single desk[/u] every day. Especially not [b]STICKY STUFF THAT'S COVERED IN YOUR SPIT AND HAS BEEN IN YOUR MOUTH[/b] :!:

my teacher said he has gum to calm his nerves? Why would we need to calm our nerves? Why do you want gum in the first place?

If you tell us to stop chewing, then we will continue chewing. If you let us, then we might not put it on the floor, just in the trash can. All points on this topic are "ifs". We cannot be sure unless we try. Both students and teachers are biast against this. How about we have the same policy for gum as for computers? At the beginning of the period you check for gum, and if there is some in your area, then the person who was there in the class before you would get the blame. Now, the only loophole in this is that it all depends on an honor system, and some kids will stick gum under their desks and say the kid before them did. The only solution to this is that you can tell if its fresh or not, see?Yet, the smart kids will figure out how to get around this[let it sit for a while till it is dry, then tell the teacher], so peer presure will keep anyone from blaming someone else, or the whole class is banned from gum chewing for a week. See?

Gum chewing is a serious problem. I mean we should be able to chew gum but to a certain extent but, we all know there is not one school without at least one trouble maker and this causes the problem. we had sheets for basketball sign ups and within 1 class period the paper had been vandelized with gum, chewed gum it was the most disgusting thing i have ever witnessed( over exaggeration) but it still was disgusting

if your wondering y we cant hav gum try looking at the bottom of ur lunch tables. I meen, if student wer mature enuff to just throw it away, we wudnt have this problem!!! i know that most peeple put it where it belongs (in ur mouth and in the trash can) but, knowing the kids at my school, most gum will end up on the bottom of someones shoe, in someones hair or under a desk. Ide prefer to suck on a mint then to spend my lunch period in the girl's bathroom scraping on my tennis shoe cuz someone was to lazy to grab a tissue and throw it in the trash!

So, maybe instead of petitioning for more gum, maybe we shud be on our teachers about more hard candy. Like others have sed, gum is a way to entertain u.... mint stimulates the mind and is good for nerves.

no offense, but, its not an issue of feeling respected, its an issue of laxity. I see your point, though, that gum is a lot less valuable when your teacher hands it to you. half the fun (not for me of course :wink:) is the act of hiding it from the teacher..... it all depends on the student.

the whole reson gum gets under neath the desk is because us, students are scared to just get up and through the gum away. My friend once went to through away his gum (being honest about it) and he got in soo mcuh trouble. :( if we were aloud to chew gum it wouldn't be under neath the desk
