Sports Trainers
Okay, I recently learned that at several schools, including mine (Northeast High School), that they created a swimming team instead of hiring sports trainers. Playing soccer and lacrosse, two very active sports that contain high amounts of contact, I know the importance of trainers. By having trainers the saftey of athletes are more insured because by having trainers on site athletes that are injured can be professionally diagnosed on spot.
I'm not saying that swimming isn't an important sport, I'm just saying that having trainers is more important than adding a new sport. It makes me sad that schools think that it's more important to have another sport that to insure the safety of the other athletes.

agreed
i toataly agree!
me being a lacrosse gollie understand the importance of having mor than on or two people on spot because certian possitions have certain needs and are compleatly different!
I think you aren't
I think you aren't considering the interest of all the other people in the school. Some of the other swimmers might disagree with you. Everyone has a chance to swim, only the lacrosse team benefits from a trainer.
Don't Forget
Trainers don't only help lacrosse. Soccer, football, vollyball, softball, basketball, baseball, track and field, and wresling also benifit from having trainers. Even clubs such as the dance company could benifit from sports trainers.
Shouldn't schools be looking to protect students? Well, serious injuries can occur on the field and coaches can diagnose them wrong and put a player back out on the field when they need to be treated immeadiately.
It is easier to find competitive swimming teams outside of school than it is for other sports, as well. I know of al least six non school related swim teams in my area that are highly respectable. Other than clinic soccer, besides leages such as WAGS and such, I haven't found competitive teams for soccer outside of school.
Even if we can't afford sports trainers we could surely afford to let our coaches attend classes to learn the basics of sport injuries.
Swim teams
I don't think the problem is whether swimming is the sport, but rather adding a new sport alltogether is important to everyone. Believe it or not there are a lot of kids who want to represent their school and being on a team is part of it. True the team doesn't benefit everyone, but what about for the people who don't like the other sports offered. Swimming is a great sport, and has actuallybeen proven to offer the most exercise, and with so many people complaining about obesity, swimming is a great addition to schools.
