I can understand why, but it is not a priority of the school system to replace lockers. We all would [i]like[/i] new lockers, but it may not be realistic to assume that we'll actually get them. With the number of school buildings 30-60 years old rapidly growing, the board or schools will be forced to find a solution soon.

You are right that it would cost alot of money but just do the schools one at a time :idea:

sorry but I agree with Connar!There are bigger things to do!Instead of using our $100,000 on lockers we could send that money to the hurricane victims, and help them [b][i][u]build[/u][/i][/b] schools!They don't even have old lockers!There are more important things in the world than lockers!

While giving money to the regions affected by Hurricane Katrina and other natural disasters may seem very compassionate, our school system is not the appropriate avenue for philanthropy.

Our school system is working to overhaul its aging schools, and anyway, other government agencies and private organizations are responsible for the rebuilding of educational facilities across the Gulf Coast.

I do agree that lockers are not as needed as, for example, air conditioning or teacher salaries.

true but evryone should still be a good citizen! School is supposed to help bring you up to adulthood! And it helps you get well rounded!

Sorry, I got a little off subject,but the point is that ,yes,there are way more important things than lockers!

in my school our lockers are really small and i can't evn close my locker with so many books

100 of my lockers are ether kick lockers or have broken locks. and there are 300 lockers. so 1/3 of our lockers are brocken which doesnt help with the crouded locker banks. yes the lockers are not spread out on the walls :!:

well all you need to do is repair the lockers that need repairs!Much cheaper!Just so you know that is at every school! Did you actually check that information? :?: :)

My lockers have lockers that are stuck or have the handle broken off! But only about 30 in the whole intire school when we have probably around 2000!

Knowing that new lockers would cost a ton of money we could atleast improve our lockers. The whole school could help improve the lockers... the schools could set aside one day or half a day when all of the students, teachers, and staff come together to clean lockers and improve them. Or if that idea backfires -maybe for the Middle Schools- the 8th graders could get larger lockers since they have more books.

First of all, I don't think that kids will actually come to school to clean or fix lockers!

Secondly,Only 8th graders getting new lockers seems rude! No matter what grade you are in in middle school, you have the same amount of books basicly!

Thirdly, Sometimes Classes are too big and have to have lockers in different areas of the hall! What if you were in 8th grade but was assigned a 7th grade locker! RIP OFF!

I think the only solution is to find out how many lockers are actually broken and get that new part, like a door or handle,and instull it over Summer Vacation!!

i agree with ostrichlady i mean we carry the same amount of books and it just would't seem fair to the 6th and 7th graders

ok my school lockers are like 6 in wide and they are right next to each other and we have no space at the end of the day cuz all these ppl are trying to leave at the same time and our book bags dont even fit in there! :x our Sga is trying to get new lockers this year but we have to have the money so we need help from the board of Education or something

I think you are exagerating a little about the 6 in locker but, mine are like 8 in wide and I can fit my books in and If I don't feel like putting them inthere neat so i can fit them I stack them on top of each other! You backpack should fit fine!If not maybe it is the backpack, not the locker

you know what when we do get new lockers for other schools make it so that students pick them out
our new lockers are good but dont fit right

who even came up with the ideas of locker banks
i preffer river banks (meaning hallway lockers)

that's what I have! There are problems with people at their lockers and blocking the way for people going down the hall!

i mean i personally don't have the problems that ostrichlady and Kenneth_Hughes have but i do have a problem with getting to my locker after school. I hate when ppl stand around and talk and like almost miss thier bus.It is really a very big pain to ask them to plz move so i can go home.

It is a not so great expirence having to navigate through all the people walking slow. I just try to find a different way out.

well i tried finding a different way but they take up almost the whole area where my locker is...

You can ask them politley to move but in all likleyhood you will have to push through the crowd.

ohh i kno... i go to the same school as kyle and it is just horrible. even the teachers agree with us that we need new lockers... our lockers are 7inches by 6 inches... you cant even fit a piece of paper in them!! a piece of paper is 8 inches by 11 inches! how are we suppost to fit our books in them? and there isnt enough room in the top of our locker to fit all of our books, so we are forced to carry all of our books around w/ us all day.

we cant fit our book bags in our locker either, u litterally have to fold ur bookbag to get it in, thats y most people dont even have bookbags... thats y i dont. and when ur bag doesnt fit u get in trouble if u cary it around all day. how is that suppost to work :?:

plus, people dont use their lockers anyway b/c the majority of them are kick lockers are brocken so bad that they can easily be brocken into. like my locker u dont even have to kick to open, it just swings open, i dont even keep anything in the bottom part of my locker and ive already gotten 2 binders stolen out of my locker this year!

In middle school the locker situation isn't that great. But one thing that you have to remember is that everyone else made it through and you will also. One thing you can do is talk to your school principal and teachers to make them aware of the problem.

thats just it... we [b]HAVE[/b] talked to our princible and our teacher about it, but like i said before, the teachers know about it and they agree w/ us. the're sick of giving people detentions whos backpacks wont fit in their locker and they have to carry them around.

And we [b]have[/b] made an effort to inform the parents of our school. we have attended PTO meetings and tryed to talk to the parents and teachers. we have even tried to have fundraisers to help out with the cost which is half a million $. ( outraigious!)

but not meaning to point fingers :arrow: but our principal has totally overthrown our efforts to raise money. he has canceled all of our dances and all funraisers the SGA sponcers/ holds. and then to 'make up for it' he supposidly gave us an unlimited supply of money...( ya right :!: )

but back to the locker topic, but we have made a huge effort to inform people about our situation but so far it seams like nobody really cares or at least takes intrest in our sitation. but i swear it gets infuriation :evil: to try to explain this to people!! Thank God im going into high school next year! bur i still pitty those to come to our school.

I really don't find lockers to be a big problem. Our schools lockers are fine but thats just ours. Once you get inot high School toy really don't use your locker as much. The halls should be big enough for bookbags.

everytime I have a field trip I have to ask my teacher to old my binder because it doesn't fit into my locker

also, there's so little space in the locker banks that I have to leave my stuff in my last block class because they're so much of it and so little room in the banks

We're suppose to get them in during this Thanksgiving break but I have a feeling that the problem won't stop yet

and I've been a victim of kick locker theft

I had a kick locker last year and someone stole my cellphone and charged $150 dollars to it (I keep it in my bookbag in case of emergency)

ALSO I have to carry ALL my stuff around with me everywhere and I could swear I'm gonna break my back soon

The locker banks are so stinkin crowd between classes that I can't get to them quick enough as to not be late for class

Yeah, but teachers/admin are worried we'll carry around weapons and drugs and stuff like that.

that sounds like a good idea for that situation

but at Central, the lockers really aren't big enough for my one binder, so I always have, and have had to ask one of my teachers to keep it in their room when we'd go on fieldtrips and such

They really aren't that big, and they're smushed together which shoves all of the people around me together

I don't go to my locker anymore becuase there are too many people in there and so little time to put my stuff away

Well first of.. SO MANY ARE NOT USED!!! and why cant they just mesh 2 togeather and create a big locker!!! :idea: theres an idea!!! Any way I have 1 binder and it cant even fit in to it!! I have to shuf my junk into my locker when i need to and so many people complain and the board has showed no resoponce to the complaints.
