EMERGENCY ON SCHEDULES! SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES HALF YEAR
Dr. Maxwell just announced that he is making science and social studies half year again. As I'm sure many of you remember, this is a terrible organization chosen simply because it decreases teacher workload, with no consideration to how harmful it is to students. Not only does it completely mess up testing, but it means you could easily go a year in between a class, and you will have to cram your study into a semester. When I had this schedule, I felt like I couldn't retain anything, I missed out on the science fair, and I felt like the school system was telling me these subjects were just not as important as the others. Schools should be organized around learning, not around teacher workload inequity! Please fight this decision! Testify at the board, write petitions, sign the one here, come and vote at CRASC, and speak to reporters and your local SGAs.
After all this time a change finally comes in middle school schedules, and this is all we get. Don't let this happen without a fight!

Re: EMERGENCY ON SCHEDULES! SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES HALF YEAR
The current schedule is the best schedule. Expecaly for the 8th graders who have to take a science MSA. It also helps prepare us for high school, why go back?
Re: EMERGENCY ON SCHEDULES! SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES HALF YEAR
I don't know how to make this any clearer. I need responses to this. Does anyone know how the CRASC vote went?
Re: EMERGENCY ON SCHEDULES! SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES HALF YEAR
I think we voted to keep teh schedule but im not really sure
Re: EMERGENCY ON SCHEDULES! SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES HALF YEAR
I think we should have seven period days. I hate to say it but... not all students have great attention spans. 86 minutes is an aweful lot for some of the students at my school. Also, the teachers,(especially spanish) have to reteach the students what we did last class because they forgot! My social studies teacher has trouble filling the full 86 min. anyway! The homework load won't increase as much as most people think anyway. Plus if we have M.S.A.'s or any test on the things we did in 6th grade we forget.
PLEASE DR.MAXWELL CHANGE IT!!!
The orange day blue day thing messes me up too, if we miss a day I have to bring all of my stuff (which is hard without being able to carry a backpack all day!) with me. It is better than one semester for each though. So I guess in summary, almost anything would be better than a semester of science, semester of social studies!
Re: EMERGENCY ON SCHEDULES! SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES HALF YEAR
Thanks for posting--but it would be even better if you came and testified. Grumpy, why don't you come speak at the next board meeting. the 3 students who testified 2 meetings ago had a big impact, but not all the board members were there. if you could come repeat this that would be wonderful!
Re: EMERGENCY ON SCHEDULES! SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES HALF YEAR
Actually I wanted to testify but I had drama pratice. I am planning on coming to the next meeting also!! I might not have time. I am going to remind them about backpacks and bring up Camp Letts, but if I have time I will!
