Magnet and Signature Programs
For those of you that are interested, Anne Arundel County will be instituting a magnet/signature program at every high school and middle school. While not everything is finalized at this time, these are the changes that will be carried out in the near future.
magnet programs draw students from the immediate geographic area. Signature programs are only for students already enrolled at that school.
North County High: STEM (Science, technology, Engineering, and math) magnet, next fall
South River High: STEM magnet, fall 2009
Meade High School: Homeland Security Signature Program, fall 2009
MacArthur Middle and Meade High: IB program will open up as magnet program
Annapolis middle, MacArthur, Old MIll middle North: IB middle years program for whole school (everyone will be in it), fall 2008
later plans include:
Brooklyn park, Lindale, Central, Severna Park Middle: STEM
Glen Burnie High: Biomedical-Health magnet program
Bates middle and Annapolis High: Performing and visual arts magnet program

Re: Magnet and Signature Programs
even though it is kind of too late to speak up, i think that this is a bad idea to have so many magnet schools in one county. I fully agree that there should be a magnet/ stem program system but with that rapid amount of stem programs at once is in a way silly. the programs should have their own school, like CATNorth/CATSouth, or as an afterschool activity, the the ESTEEM program.
Re: Magnet and Signature Programs
It is fast, but at least some of them will wait a year or two. i also think there are some signature programs that haven't been officially decided yet, so they won't be implemented immediately either.
