College ED!

Ok, well I don't know about other schools, but at ours, every monday morning, our homeroom is extened for an "advisory" and thats when our homeroom is extened I think an hour. I mean, I don't mind it but it's different and a little weird; just wanting to know if any other schools do that?! :?: :!: :)

College ED!

hm
ours doesn't do that

So is it just an extra hour of the class :?:

College ED!

well yeahh. but its an extra hour of homeroom, but then for the rest of our classes we have one hour delay schedule, so thats pretty cool! 8) :!:

College ED!

My school is starting that on thurs. i don't know what it is but i know that we are doing it during 4th PD and we won't have extra time lol well u can see how much i know

College ED!

College ED!

.. oh yeah

It was pretty boring, nevermind

College ED!

At our school (Bates), we had advisory/extended homeroom/whatever you want to call it weekly for a while. It was mainly an MSA prep thing. The college ed was a two-day lesson though language arts classes (I think). Maybe there are different ways to teach it - or 2 different college eds?

Re: College ED!

Well our school does it too! I love it! We read watch movies talk... it is fun.

Re: College ED!

at my school(bates) we have advisory everyday durring 3rd pd.....but now we have a 5 pd day i dont relly like it that much...

Re: College ED!

our school has advisory periods every now and then, more like every 2 weeks. our school uses them for the bulling lessons and to teach us about how to help a friend tell someone stuff. i mean i don't mind it so much its just that nobody really pays attention to the stuff thier saying most kids do thier homework that they forgot to do last night and is due next class. teh y should find some other way to present the imformation to the kids. like... creating a more fun way to present the imformation... or have kids teach it

Re: College ED!

You guys actually discuss college in middle school! What do you discuss?

Re: College ED!

well our school doesnt talk about college. the advisory periods are only for the lessons.

Re: College ED!

Could someone who posted earlier explain what college related topics are discussed?

Re: College ED!

Actually we did that last year and what we did is research things from our parents and find out if college was right for you. Whether you want to be a doctor you need a certain major, then med. school or if you wanted to be a photographer you needed to go to a fine arts school, and we did money savings plans. We also did reasearch on different ways to get into college, and on the colleges themselves. (one of our HWs was to find info. on a college you might go to, why and how much did it cost)

Re: College ED!

so in general i'm pretty supportive of college ed, but my brother is actually taking it right now and i have a few concerns.

1) it seems like it pushes students into classes they aren't ready for

2) you make it sound like it encourages vocational school, which really isn't appropriate in middle school.

3) it says the community college is an equal substitute, and maybe even superior, to public and private 4 year institutions

do you think these things are a problem in your class?

Re: College ED!

well the problems i have with it is that it is SO boring!! :!: !!
there are these weird lessons on things we dont care about, like how the brain works. seriosly leave that to the science and d.e.a.r thats for english!
they are taking away core lessons from other subjects that matter in them. I DONT LIKE IT!
